Yn ôl y chwedl, gwelodd Poseidon hi'n dawnsio gyda'r Neriaid ar ynys Naxos un diwrnod. Cipiodd hi a'i dwyn i'w deyrnas. Nid yw hi'n cael ei glaw'n wraig Poseidon yng ngwaith Homer, ond yn dduwies y môr sy'n hyrddio'r tonnau yn erbyn y creigiau ac yn gofalu am creaduriaid y môr. Ei fab yw Triton, un o dduwiau'r môr.
