Thoracochromis és un gènere de peixos pertanyent a la família dels cíclids i a l'ordre dels perciformes.[1][2]
Etimologia
Thoracochromis prové dels mots grecs thorax, -akos (cuirassa, closca) i chromis (una mena de peix, potser una perca).[3]
Reproducció
Les femelles són incubadores bucals.[4]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba a Àfrica:[5][6][7] el llac Albert[8] i les conques dels rius Nil,[9][10][11] Congo,[12][13] Cuango,[14] Cunene[15] i Cuando[16] a Egipte,[9] el Sudan,[17] Uganda,[9][18] el Camerun,[19] la República Democràtica del Congo,[12][20][21][22] Angola[9] i Namíbia.[9][23]

Thoracochromis albolabris, Thoracochromis bakongo, Thoracochromis brauschi, Thoracochromis buysi, Thoracochromis callichromus, Thoracochromis demeusii, Thoracochromis fasciatus, Thoracochromis lucullae, Thoracochromis moeruensis, Thoracochromis schwetzi i Thoracochromis wingatii apareixen a la Llista Vermella de la UICN a causa de l'erosió produïda per les activitats agrícoles i mineres (especialment, alumini i diamants), les construccions de preses i la sobrepesca.[4]
