No té pas escates corporals. Cinc radis tous a les aletes ventrals.^[2]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica

Es troba a l'oceà Índic^[3] (Saya de Malha^[4] -Maurici-^[5] i l'Índia)^[6] i el Pacífic^[7] (el Japó,^{[8][9][10][11]} la mar Groga,^[12] el mar de la Xina Oriental,^[4] el mar de la Xina Meridional,^[13]Taiwan,^[14][15][16] les illes Filipines,^[7] Nova Caledònia i les illes Chesterfield^[17] i Nova Zelanda^[18][19] i les illes Kermadec.^[20]
