IAAF Kuću slavnih ustanovio je IAAF 2012. s namjerom da se oda priznanje pojedincima koji su značajno doprinijeli atletici i na međunarodnom planu i u svojim zemljama, a koji ispunjavaju određene kriterije.[1]

Inauguralna klasa, sastavljena od 24 atletičara, uvedena je u novembru 2012.

Kriteriji

Minimalni kriteriji da bi se atletičar mogao kvalificirati za članstvo u Kući slavnih jesu:

  1. mora imati najmanje 2 zlatne medalje na Olimpijskim igrama ili svjetskim prvenstvima
  2. postavljen najmanje jedan svjetski rekord
  3. mora biti u sportskoj penziji najmanje 10 godina u vrijeme izbora u Kuću slavnih.[1]

Ovi kriteriji mogu biti prošireni kako bi se dozvolilo da se u razmatranje za članstvo uzmu i atletičari čija su postignuća imala izvanredan utjecaj na ovaj sport.[2]
