সুসীম মৌর্য ছিলেন প্রাচীন ভারতের মৌর্য সাম্রাজ্যের যুবরাজ এবং জ্যেষ্ঠ পুত্র, এবং দ্বিতীয় মৌর্য সম্রাট বিন্দুসারের উত্তরাধিকারী। তিনি তার পিতার সিংহাসনের জন্য পরবর্তী সারিতে ছিলেন,[১] কিন্তু তার ছোট সৎ ভাই অশোকের সাথে উত্তরাধিকার সংঘাতে নিহত হন এবং অশোক শেষ পর্যন্ত তৃতীয় মৌর্য সম্রাট হিসেবে বিন্দুসারের স্থলাভিষিক্ত হন।

জন্ম ও পরিবার

সুসীম ছিলেন দ্বিতীয় মৌর্য সম্রাট বিন্দুসারের জ্যেষ্ঠ পুত্র। সুসীম শুধু রাজকুমারই ছিলেন না, অশোকের মা সাধারণ ঘরে জন্ম নেয়া সুভদ্রঙ্গীর বিপরীতে তার মা ছিলেন একজন রাজকন্যা।[২]

জীবন

সুসীম বিন্দুসার হতে তার প্রধান রাণী চারুমিত্রের গর্ভে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। অশোকসহ তাঁর বেশ কয়েকটি ছোট সৎ-ভাই ছিল, যারা বিন্দুসারের দ্বিতীয় স্ত্রী সুভদ্রঙ্গীর ঘরে জন্মেছিলেন। সুসীম যুদ্ধ ও রাষ্ট্রীয় শিল্পকলায় সুশিক্ষিত ও প্রশিক্ষিত ছিলেন। তিনি একজন দক্ষ তীরন্দাজ ও ঘোড়সওয়ারও ছিলেন।

২৭০ খ্রিস্টপূর্বাব্দে বিন্দুসার অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়লে, সুসীম সিংহাসনের স্পষ্ট উত্তরাধিকারী ছিলেন। যাইহোক, অশোক সেনাবাহিনী এবং জনগণের মধ্যে জনপ্রিয় ব্যক্তিত্ব ছিলেন। এমনকি অশোকরের প্রতি বিন্দুসারের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী রাধাগুপ্তের সমর্থনও ছিল।

বিন্দুসারের মৃত্যুর পর সুসীম ও অশোকের মধ্যে উত্তরাধিকার বিবাদ শুরু হয়। অশোক সুসীমের বাহিনীকে পরাজিত করে নিজের জন্য সিংহাসন দাবি করতে সক্ষম হন। সুসীম যুদ্ধে নিহত হন।

সুসীমের মৃত্যু ছিল মৌর্য সাম্রাজ্যের ইতিহাসে একটি বড় বাঁক। অশোক ভারতীয় ইতিহাসের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ সম্রাটদের একজন হয়ে উঠেছিলেন। তিনি বৌদ্ধধর্মের প্রচার এবং শান্তি ও অহিংসা প্রচারের জন্য তার প্রচেষ্টার জন্য সর্বাধিক পরিচিতি লাভ করেন।
