সঙ্গম সাহিত্য

প্রাচীন তামিল সিদ্ধর অগস্তিয়ারের ভাস্কর্য যিনি ঐতিহ্যগতভাবে মাদুরাইতে প্রথম তামিল সঙ্গমের সভাপতিত্ব করেছিলেন বলে বিশ্বাস করা হয়

সঙ্গম সাহিত্য ধ্রুপদী তামিল সাহিত্যের একটি অংশ। খ্রিষ্টপূর্ব ৩০০ অব্দ থেকে ৬০০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দের মধ্যে রচিত^{[১][২][৩]} এই সাহিত্যধারা ৪৭৩ জন কবির রচিত ২৩৮১টি কবিতার এক সংকলন। এই কবিদের মধ্যে ১০২ জনের পরিচয় জানা যায় না।^[৪] এই কবিতাগুলি যে সময়কালে রচিত হয় সেই সময়কালটিকে সাধারণভাবে সঙ্গম যুগ নামে অভিহিত করা হয়। সাহিত্য গবেষকদের মতে সহস্রাধিক বছর বিদ্যমান সঙ্গম কিংবদন্তির নামানুসারে এই সমগ্র সাহিত্যবর্গটি নামাঙ্কিত। ^{[৫][৬][৭]} সঙ্গম সাহিত্যের বিষয়বস্তু ছিল ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ। এর উপজীব্য ছিল তামিল জাতির দৈনন্দিন জীবনযাত্রার নানা বিবরণ।^[৮]

সঙ্গম সাহিত্যকারেরা ছিলেন তামিল কবি। তাদের মধ্যে ছিলেন সমাজের বিভিন্ন পেশা ও শ্রেণির পুরুষ ও মহিলারাও। পরবর্তীকালে বিভিন্ন সংকলনে সংকলিত ও সম্পাদিত হয়ে ১০০০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ নাগাদ গ্রন্থাকারে প্রকাশিত হয় এই কবিতাগুলি। পরবর্তীকালে জনপ্রিয়তা হারালেও ঊনবিংশ শতাব্দীতে সি ডব্লিউ তামোতারামপিল্লাই ও ইউ ভি স্বামীনাথ আয়ার প্রমুখ পণ্ডিত কর্তৃক পুনরাবিষ্কৃত হয় এগুলি।
