Агульная сонная артэрыя (лац.: arteria carotis communis) — парная артэрыя, бярэ пачатак у грудной поласці, правая ад плечагалаўнога ствала (лац.: truncus brachiocephalicus) і левая — ад дугі аорты (лац.: arcus aortae), таму левая агульная сонная артэрыя на некалькі сантыметраў даўжэйшая за правую. Забяспечвае крывёй мозг, органы зроку і вялікую частку галавы.

Агульная сонная артэрыя падымаецца амаль вертыкальна ўверх і выходзіць праз apertura thoracis superior ў абсяг шыі. Тут яна размяшчаецца на пярэдняй паверхні папярочных атожылкаў шыйных пазванкоў і навакольных цягліц, збоку ад трахеі і стрававода, ззаду грудзіна-ключыца-соскападобнай цягліцы і ператрахельнай пласцінкі фасцыі шыі з закладзенай у ёй лапаткава-пад'языковай цягліцай, (лац.: musculus omohyoideus). Звонку ад агульнай соннай артэрыі размяшчаецца ўнутраная ярмовая вена (лац.: vena jugularis interna), а ззаду ў жалабку паміж імі — блукаючы нерв (лац.: nervus vagus). Агульная сонная артэрыя на ўсім працягу адгалінаванняў не дае і на ўзроўні верхняга краю шчытападобнага храстка дзеліцца на:

  • вонкавую сонную артэрыю (лац.: arteria carotis externa),
  • унутраную сонную артэрыю (лац.: arteria carotis interna).
