La Badea Fósiles ye una badea allugada na mariña esti de la islla Marambio/Seymour, del grupu de la islla James Ross, L'Antártida. Tien dos kilómetros de llargu y atópase al nornoreste del cabu Lamas, n'agües del estrechu Bouchard o pasu Almirantazgo.[1]

Carauterístiques

Foi nomada pol Programa Antárticu de los Estaos Xuníos ya investigadores arxentinos por cuenta de los fósiles atopaos equí en 1982. N'idioma inglés reemplazóse'l topónimu orixinal Bay (badea) por Bight (rancón). Atópase próxima a la quebrada Llarga, sitiu onde se toparon numberosos fósiles.

Equí atopáronse los primeres mosasaurios antárticos, en roques de la formación López de Bertodano,[2]que daten del Cretácicu cimeru.[3]

Reclamaciones territoriales

Arxentina inclúi a la badea nel departamentu de l'Antártida Arxentina dientro de la provincia de Tierra del Fueu, Antártida ya les islles del Océanu Atlánticu Sur; pa Chile forma parte de la comuña Antártica de la provincia Antártica Chilena dientro de la Rexón de Magallanes y de l'Antártida Chilena; y pa el Reinu Xuníu integra'l Territoriu Antárticu Británicu.

Les trés reclamaciones tán suxetes a les disposiciones del Tratáu Antárticu.
