Timbangan arus


Timbangan arus adalah alat yang digunakan untuk menetapkan nilai besaran bagi arus listrik. Alat ini bekerja dengan prinsip elektromekanik. Perintis awal pembuatan timbangan arus adalah Baron Kelvin, yang bernama William Thomson. Bahan pengukurannya adalah sebuah kawat. Pada kawat terdapat dua kumparan. Rangkaian kumparan disusun secara seri. Salah satu kumparan dihubungkan ke lengan timbangan. Lengan ini sangat peka terhadap arus listrik. Pengukuran arus listrik diawali dengan melewatkan arus listrik pada kawat. Selama pengaliran arus listrik, timbul gaya magnet di antara kedua kumparan. Nilai gaya magnet dihitung dengan menyamakan jumlah beban pada lengan timbangan yang lainnya. Nilai arus listrik dihitung ketika lengan timbangan pada posisi seimbang. Hasil pengukuran timbangan arus ditentukan oleh ukuran kumparan. Tingkat ketelitiannya sepenuhnya bergantung kepada kemampuan ukur kumparan dan kekakuan mekanis.[1]
