Solar Impulse

Solar Impulse adalah pesawat terbang eksperimental dan juga nama proyek dari kedua pesawat yang telah dibuat. Solar Impulse diinisiasi oleh dua pria berkebangsaan Swiss, André Borschberg dan Bertrand Piccard. Solar Impulse adalah pesawat berkursi satu bertenaga surya. Saat ini ada dua buah pesawat Solar Impulse yang telah dibuat.[1][2][3][4]

Pesawat pertama dinamai Solar Impulse 1 dengan nomor registrasi pesawat HB-SIA. Solar Impulse 1 berhasil terbang dengan hanya menggunakan tenaga surya dari Swiss ke Spanyol lalu ke Maroko pada tahun 2012. Selanjutnya, Solar Impulse 1 berhasil terbang melintasi beberapa kota di Amerika Serikat pada tahun 2013.[5][6][7][8][9]

Pesawat kedua dinamai Solar Impulse 2 dengan nomor registrasi pesawat HB-SIB. Pada bulan Maret 2015, André Borschberg dan Bertrand Piccard memulai percobaan penerbangan keliling dunia dengan menggunakan Solar Impulse 2. Solar Impulse 2 terbang dari Abu Dhabi dan berhenti di beberapa negara sebelum akhirnya kembali lagi ke Abu Dhabi. Saat ini, Solar Impulse 2 sedang berada di Hawaii. Baterai pesawat mengalami kerusakan sehingga butuh perbaikan cukup lama dan penerbangan keliling dunia akan dilanjutkan pada April 2016.[10][11][12][13]
