SMK Negeri 4 Padang adalah sekolah menengah kejuruan negeri yang terletak di Kelurahan Cengkeh Nan XX, Kecamatan Lubuk Begalung, Kota Padang.[2] Sekolah ini berada di depan SMK Negeri 8 Padang dan juga berdekatan dengan SMK Negeri 7 Padang.

Sejarah

SMK Negeri 4 Padang didirikan dengan nama Sekolah Seni Rupa Indonesia (SSRI) pada 25 September 1965 dan telah beberapa kali berganti nama. Tahun 1977, SSRI berubah nama menjadi Sekolah Menengah Seni Rupa (SMSR Padang) dan tahun 1994 berganti lagi menjadi Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 4 Padang sampai sekarang.[3]

Hingga sekarang SSRI/SMSR/SMK 4 Padang telah menghasilkan lebih dari 3000 tamatan yang bekerja di berbagai pelosok Nusantara sampai mancanegara. Profesi mereka antara lain sebagai pelukis, pematung, desainer grafis, fotografer, ilustrator pada media cetak, penata artistik di media elektronik (TV), wartawan, pengusaha berbagai produk seni dan kerajinan, guru, dosen dan lainnya.[3]

Di antara banyak alumni yang berkiprah di tingkat nasional terdapat nama pelukis seperti Syaiful Adnan, Yanuar Ernawati, Yetmon Amir, Hendra Buana, Stefan Buana, Yunizar, Rudi Mantofani, Asnida Hasan, Handiwirman, Darvies Rasyidin dll dan pematung diantaranya, Kasman KS, Syahrizal, Albara, Ali Umar, kesemuanya bermukim di Yogyakarta.[3]

Bidang Desain Grafis tamatan SSRI/SMSR/SMK Negeri 3 orang tamatannya tahun 1995 lalu direkrut oleh Perum Peruri (Percetakan Uang Negara RI), bidang craf banyak yang menjadi oengusaha kerajinan, seperti Hery Maizul (perancang patung Mc Donald), Neil Fuadi, Yulhendri (Patung Indian dll) serta banyak lagi.[3]
