Oryzias adalah slaah satu genus dalam keluarga Adrianicthyidae. Oryzias tersebar di wilayah Asia Selatan, Asia Timur dan Asia Tenggara. Habitat alaminya adalah di persawahan, kolam, selokan, dan danau. Oryzias dapat hidup di air tawar maupun air payau. Oryzias lebih dikenal dengan nama ikan medaka atau ikan padi.[4]

Di negara-negara tersebut genus Oryzias lebih dikenal dengan istilah ikan medaka."
