MC Lyte (lahir 11 Oktober 1971)^[1] adalah penyanyi rap wanita Amerika Serikat. Kedua orang kakak kandungnya, Milk Dee dan Gizmo menjadi duo penyanyi hip-hop Audio Two. Ia adalah anggota kehormatan sororitas Sigma Gamma Rho.

Karier

"MC Lyte" Moorer mulai menjadi artis rap sejak berusia 12 tahun,^[1] dan menjadi artis rekaman sejak tahun 1986. Kedua orang kakaknya menjadi produser singel pertama, "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)". Setelah itu, ia dikontrak oleh First Priority Music. Album perdana, Lyte As a Rock yang dirilis tahun 1988 berisi singel "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)" dan "10% Dis".

Album kedua, Eyes on This dirilis tahun 1989, dan menghasilkan lagu hit pertama, "Cha Cha Cha" dan "Cappuccino". Video musiknya disutradarai Ric Menello yang juga menyutradarai video musik "Fight for Your Right dari The Beastie Boys. Album tahun 1991, Act Like You Know menghasilkan lagu hit "Poor Georgie", "When in Love", dan "Eyes are the Soul". Lagu "Ruffneck" dari album Ain't No Other (1993) menghasilkan nominasi Penghargaan Grammy untuk Singel Rap Terbaik sekaligus singel emas pertama bagi artis rap wanita.^[1]

Album Bad As I Wanna B dirilis di bawah label Elektra/Asylum pada tahun 1996. MC Lyte berduet dengan Missy Elliott dalam lagu "Cold Rock a Party", yang menjadi lagu nomor satu di tangga lagu musik rap, dan masuk ke urutan ke-11 tangga lagu pop. Mc Lyte ikut mengisi musik film Sunset Park dengan lagu "Keep On, Keepin' On". Album kompilasi The Very Best of MC Lyte dirilis tahun 2001 oleh label Rhino Entertainment.

Pada tahun 2003, MC Lyte kembali dengan album indie di bawah label milik sendiri, SGI/CMM yang didirikannya bersama manajer Fred Crawford. Album yang diberi nama Da Underground Heat Vol. 1 hosted by Jamie Foxx ini menghasilkan nominasi Grammy dan Penghargaan BET.
