Kelurut (bahasa Inggris: whitlow atau felon) adalah infeksi pada ujung jari.[1][2][a] Kelurut herpetik dan kelurut melanotik (melanoma subungual) adalah subtipe yang tidak sinonim dengan istilah felon. Felon adalah "abses yang sangat menyakitkan pada aspek palmar ujung jari".[6] Kelurut biasanya merujuk pada kelurut herpetik, meskipun juga dapat merujuk pada kelurut melanotik (melanoma subungual),[7] yang agak menyerupai melanoma lentiginosa akral. Istilah kelurut dan felon juga terkadang disalahartikan sebagai paronikia, yang merupakan infeksi pada jaringan di sisi atau pangkal kuku. Felon muncul dengan rasa sakit yang berdenyut-denyut, secara klinis.

  1. ^ Istilah whitlow berasal dari bahasa Skandinavia whickflaw, yang menggabungkan varian quick (titik sensitif) dan flaw.[3][4] Felon berasal dari bahasa Prancis Kuno, yang berasal dari akar kata fel- dalam bahasa Latin, yang secara harfiah berarti "empedu" dan mengacu pada kandungan racun dari abses.[5]
