Edward Charles Pickering

Edward Charles Pickering (19 Juli 1846 – 3 Februari 1919) adalah seorang astronom dan fisikawan Amerika Serikat, saudara dari William Henry Pickering.

Pickering bersekolah di Sekolah Latin Boston, dan menerima gelar B.S. dari Universitas Harvard pada 1865. Selanjutnya dia menjabat direktur Observatorium Universitas Harvard dari 1877 hingga kematiannya pada 1919. Sumbangan terbesarnya adalah pengumpulan sampel spektrum bintang secara fotografi. Dalam melaksanakan proyek tersebut, ia merekrut banyak wanita, diantaranya Annie Jump Cannon, Henrietta Swan Leavitt, Antonia Maury, dan Williamina Fleming. Wanita-wanita ini dikenal sebagai para “Harem Pickering” oleh komunitas keilmuwan, dan membuat beberapa penemuan penting di Observatorium Harvard.
