Bantal

Bantal adalah benda untuk penyangga kepala, biasanya digunakan untuk tidur di atas ranjang, atau untuk penyangga tubuh di sofa atau kursi. Bantal biasanya diisi oleh kapas, bulu unggas, kapuk dan sebagainya.

Sejarah

Pada awalnya bantal menunjukkan tingkat kesejahteraan dari pemiliknya. Bantal telah dikenal oleh masyarakat Mesir kuno. Kemudian bantal dengan teknik penjahitan modern dan bantal dengan ornamen dikenal di Tiongkok sebagai barang berharga tinggi yang kemudian juga dikenal di Eropa abad pertengahan. Pada Tudor di Inggris, bantal banyak digunakan; yang sebelumnya dipercayai bahwa hanya wanita yang akan melahirkan yang dapat memilikinya.[1] Revolusi Industri mengawali produksi massal dari tekstil dan bantal sebagai hiasan. Bantal tradisional Tiongkok sering dibuat dari kotak keras yang bahannya berasal dari kayu, batu, besi atau keramik bukannya diisi dengan kain.[2] Beberapa orang Mesir kuno juga tidur dengan menggunakan bantal dari batu.[3]
