几何学

如果把一个边长为1的等边三角形切成两个全等的直角三角形，则直角三角形的斜边长度为1，直角边为${\displaystyle {\tfrac {1}{2}}}$和${\displaystyle {\tfrac {\sqrt {3}}{2}}}$。因此，60度的正切等于${\displaystyle {\sqrt {3}}}$

它是边长为1的正六边形的互相平行的两边之间的距离。

1. 令${\displaystyle \!\ x=2+{\cfrac {1}{1+{\cfrac {1}{2+{\cfrac {1}{1+{\cfrac {1}{2+{\cfrac {1}{1+\ddots }}}}}}}}}}}$， 由觀察可知${\displaystyle x=2+{\frac {1}{1+{\frac {1}{x}}}}}$，即${\displaystyle x^{2}-2x-2=0}$， 解方程，取正根，得${\displaystyle x=1+{\sqrt {3}}}$， 因此${\displaystyle {\sqrt {3}}=x-1=1+{\cfrac {1}{1+{\cfrac {1}{2+{\cfrac {1}{1+{\cfrac {1}{2+{\cfrac {1}{1+\ddots }}}}}}}}}}}$。
