2013年MTV音乐录影带大奖颁奖典礼于2013年8月25日在美国纽约布鲁克林的巴克萊中心举行[1]。提名于2013年7月17日公布，其中贾斯汀·汀布莱克、Macklemore与瑞恩·刘易斯各获得6项提名领先其他艺人，其次是布鲁诺·马尔斯、麦莉·赛勒斯和罗宾·西克各获得4项提名。[2][3] 颁奖典礼上最受瞩目的瞬间是麦莉·赛勒斯和罗宾·西克的表演。两人共同表演了各自的热门单曲《We Can't Stop》和《Blurred Lines》，表演尺度较大且极富性暗示意味，引发评论界及观众的不满和负面评价。仅美国联邦通信委员会就收到超过150条投诉意见。[4]颁奖典礼另一个备受关注的时刻是贾斯汀·汀布莱克获得“迈克尔·杰克逊音乐录影带先锋奖”之后与超级男孩在2002年解散之后首次同台演出。
