採礦在澳大利亞長期以來一直都是重要的第一產業，為澳大利亞經濟提供外匯收入和就業機會。歷史上，在澳大利亞發現礦材亦促進了移民和人口增長，尤其在1850年代的淘金熱時期。不同種類的礦石、寶石和礦物在過去曾經被開採，當中很多依然在全國各地開採中。
