Musa Merdanoğlu, 1935 yılında ya da resmi nüfus cüzdanı kayıtlarına göre 1939 yılında Sivas'ın Şarkışla ilçesi olan Kaymak köyünde doğmuştur.

Hayatı

İlkokul eğitimini köyünde okul olmaması nedeniyle dışarıda tamamlamış ve 1961 yılında TBMM'de hizmetli olarak çalışmaya başlamıştır. Bu sırada ortaokulu da dışarıda tamamlar. 1994 yılında memurluk kadrosunda emekli olan Merdanoğlu, 33 yıl TBMM'de hizmet etmiştir. Merdanoğlu, âşık geleneği içinde yetişmiştir ve sazı ilk kez 12-13 yaşlarında Âşık Veysel Şatıroğlu aracılığıyla tanımıştır.

Veysel'in meclislerinde bulunan Merdanoğlu, burada anlatılan hikâyeler ve türkülerden etkilenmiştir. Askere gidmeden önce kendine bir saz alan Merdanoğlu, 14 yaşında bir bade içme olayı yaşamıştır. Bu olayı, gördüğü bir rüya sonucu âşık olmasına neden olmuştur. Merdanoğlu, âşık mahlasları arasında "Âşık Musa, Musa, Merdanoğlu, Âşık Merdanoğlu, Merdanî, Âşık Merdan gibi farklı isimler kullanmıştır. Âşık Merdanoğlu, TRT'de yayınlanan "Dünya Türküleri" programında ve birçok konserde sazını çalmıştır.[1]
