SS Cygni (SS Cyg), Kuğu takımyıldızı yönünde yaklaşık olarak 372 ışık yılı uzaklıkta bulunan kataklizmik değişen yıldızdır. SS Cyg, cüce nova değişenlerinin bir alt sınıfı olan SS Cygni değişenlerinin prototipidir. Parlaklığı, 49,5 günlük bir süre içerisinde 7,7 kadir ile 12,4 kadir aralığında değişkenlik gösterir.[2]

SS Cygni, diğer tüm kataklizmik değişenler gibi yakın bir ikili sistemden oluşmaktadır. Bileşenlerden biri bir kırmızı cüce, diğeri ise bir beyaz cücedir. Çalışmalar, SS Cyg sistemindeki yıldızların sadece 161.000 km veya daha az bir mesafe ile birbirlerinden ayrıldıklarını göstermektedir. Gök bilimsel açıdan SS Cygni bize oldukça yakındır. Başlangıçta uzaklığının 90 ile 100 ışık yılı olduğu düşünülmüş,[4] fakat 1952 yılında 400 ışık yılı olarak revize edilmiştir.[1] 2007 yılında Hubble Uzay Teleskobu verileri mesafeyi 540 ışık yılı olarak göstermişti ve bu değer cüce novalar teorisinde ciddi zorluklara neden olmuştu.[5] 2010—2012 yılları arasında VLBI radyo gökölçümü ile yapılan hesaplamalarda yıldızın uzaklığı 372 ± 7 ışık yılı olarak tespit edilmiştir.[3] Bu değer, önceki hesaplamayla daha uyumludur (≈400 ışık yılı) ve Hubble verisiyle ortaya çıkan cüce novalar teorisindeki zorlukları tamamen gidermiştir.
