Rutenler

Karpatların doğusu, Bukovina ve Galiçya bölgelerinde yaşayan bir Doğu Slav kavmidir. Eski zamanlarda buralar Leh ya da Macar egemenliğinde olsa da bugün buralar Ukrayna'ya bağlıdır. Ortodoksluk ve Katolik inançlarını benimsemişlerdir. Dil olarak bugün Rusçanın Belarusçanın ve Ukraynacanın atası olan Rutenceyi konuşurlardı. Ama günümüzde Ukraynaca konuşurlar. Ki zaman içinde bu Slav kavmi, Ukraynalılar içinde eriyip gitmişlerdir. Bugünkü Ukraynalılar gibi yaşarlar. 1930'lu yıllarda 700.000'den fazla Ruten olduğu bilinmekteydi.
