Robert Nimrod Miner (23 Aralık 1941 - 11 Kasım 1994), Amerikalı iş insanıdır.

Oracle yazılım şirketinin kurucu ortağı ve Oracle'ın ilişkisel veritabanı yönetim sistemini geliştiren kişidir.[1]

Bob Miner, 1977'den 1992'ye kadar Oracle ilişkisel veritabanı yönetim sisteminin tasarlanması ve geliştirilmesine öncülük etti. Aralık 1992'de bu rolü bıraktı ve Oracle içinde küçük bir ileri teknoloji grubu kurdu. Ekim 1993'e kadar Oracle yönetim kurulu üyesi olarak görev yaptı.[2]

İlk yılları ve gençliği

Bob Miner, 23 Aralık 1941'de Illinois, Cicero'da Süryani bir ailenin çocuğu olarak dünyaya geldi.[3][4] Her iki ebeveyni de İran'ın kuzeybatısındaki Batı Azerbaycan Eyaleti'ndeki Ada aslı köydendi ve 1920'lerde ABD'ye göç etmişlerdir.[3][4] Bob Miner, ailenin beş çocuğundan en küçüğüydü.[4] 1963'te Urbana-Champaign'deki Illinois Üniversitesi'nden matematik derecesi ile mezun oldu.[5]

Kariyeri

Miner, 1977'de elektronik firması Ampex'te Larry Ellison ile birlikte, onun amiri pozisyonunda çalıştı. Kısa süre sonra Ampex'ten ayrılarak Ed Oates ve Bruce Scott ile Software Development Laboratories adlı bir şirket kurdu. Birkaç ay sonra Larry Ellison şirkete katıldı. Bu sırada Ed Oates,[6] Miner ve Ellison'a E. F. Codd'un ilişkisel veritabanı yönetimi modeli hakkında bir makalesini tanıttı. Ellison'a göre, Miner "Şirketten çok çalışanlara bağlılık gösteriyordu."[9]

Kişisel hayatı

Bob Miner'a 1993 yılında asbeste maruz kalmanın neden olduğu nadir bir akciğer kanseri türü olan plevral mezotelyoma teşhisi konmuştur. 11 Kasım 1994 Cuma günü, 52 yaşında, karısı Mary ve üç çocukları Nicola, Justine ve Luke ile yanıbaşında iken ölmüştür. Eşi Mary, bir Napa şaraphanesi olan Oakville Ranch Vineyards'ın kurucusu ve sahibidir. Kızı Nicola Miner, yazar Robert Mailer Anderson ile evlidir.

Miner ailesinin hayır kurumu, çeşitli San Francisco sanat ve eğitim kurumlarına bağışta bulunmuştur. SFJAZZ Merkezi'nin oditoryumu Miner'ın adını almıştır.
