Past participle

Past participle, İngilizce dilbilgisinde fiillerin üçüncü hâli. Perfect zaman yapılarının, edilgen yapıların ve bazen de sıfatların kurulmasında kullanılır.[1] Düzenli fiillerde fiilin ikinci hâli (past tense) ile aynıdır ve fiil sonuna "-ed" eki eklenerek oluşturulur:

  • I have visited my parents today. (present perfect)
  • I was warned by the warden. (passive voice)
  • limited seating (adjective)

Düzensiz fiillerde (irregular verbs) ise her bir fiilin past participle hâli farklıdır ve ezberlenmeleri gerekir:

İngilizcede participle kavramı "fiilden oluşturulmuş sözcük" anlamına gelir[2] ve Türkçedeki sıfat-fiillerle benzerlik gösterir.
