Giovanni Gussone

Giovanni Gussone (8 Şubat 1787, Villamaina - 14 Ocak 1866, Napoli) İtalyan akademisyen ve botanikçi. Bitki taksonomisindeki çalışmaları ile bilinir. Bitki bilim mahlası Guss.'dur.[1]

Napoli'de tıp okudu ve burada Michele Tenore'dan etkilendi. 1811'de mezun olduktan sonra Tenore'nin yöneticisi olduğu Orto Botanico di Napoli'de çalıştı. 1817'de, Palermo'nun dışındaki Boccadifalco Botanik Bahçesi'nin müdürü olarak atandı ve Sicilya'ya taşındı. Sicilya florası üzerinde kapsamlı araştırmalar yürüttü ve sonuç olarak "Florae Siculae Prodromus" ile "Florae Siculae Synopsis" adlı eserleri yayımladı. 1861'de Napoli Üniversitesi fahri profesörü olarak seçildi.[2][3]

Petagnaea gussonei onun onuruna adlandırılmıştır.[2]
