Gürültü

Gürültü, yaygın olarak, istenmeyen ses veya ses kirliliği anlamıyla kullanılır. Elektronik alanında gürültü; pre amplifikatör, televizyon gibi ses veya görüntünün çevrilmesini sağlayan sistemlere etki eden, iletilmek istenen bilgi sinyaline karışan parazitlerdir. Analog veya dijital sinyallerin işlenmesi veya veri işleme sırasında sinyale karışan, uygulanan işlemlerin istenmeyen ve belli anlama gelmeyen yan ürünü olarak da tanımlanabilir. Daha geniş anlamda, bir plaktan gelen cızırtı veya bir internet sayfasındaki reklam gürültü olarak nitelendirilebilir.

Gürültü, insanlar veya elektronik cihazlar arası iletişimi, gönderilmekte olan iletiyi engelleyerek, iletinin anlamını değiştirerek ve hatta çarpıtarak zorlaştırabilir veya imkânsız hale getirebilir.

Akustik gürültü

Gürültü, ses olarak düşünüldüğünde, genellikle bir anlam ifade etmeyen, belli bir yüksekliği aşan seviyeler için kullanılır. Bu şekilde yaklaşıldığında, yüksek seviyeye ulaşmış herhangi bir ses gürültüdür. Diğer yandan, örneğin iki kişi arasında geçen bir diyaloğu, konuşmaya katılmayan üçüncü bir kişi "gürültü" olarak algılayabilir. Köpek havlaması, komşunun çaldığı yüksek sesli müzik, yoldan gelen araç sesleri veya kırsal bir bölgede duyulan uçak sesi de aynı şekilde "gürültü" olarak değerlendirilebilir.
