Itinatag noong 2009, ang Section23 Films ay isa sa limang kahalili sa ADV Films, gayun din bilang tagapamahagi para sa Sentai Filmworks at Switchblade Films.[2] Ipinahayag ng ADV na binenta ang mga pag-aari nito sa isang pangkat ng mga kompanya, kabilang ang Section23, noong Seteyembre 1, 2009.
