Nakakakuha ng 876927 boto (43%) si Daniel Ortega noong halalang pampangulo ng 2001. Sa halalang pamparlamento ng 2001, nagtamo ng 915417 boto ang partido (42.1%, 41 upuan).
Ang partido ay kaanib ng Internasyunal Sosyalista.
