Ang batis ay isang anyong tubig[1] na may patuloy na agos sa pinanggagalingan nito. Mayroon itong tubig sa ibabaw na dumadaloy sa ilalim nito at sa mga pampang ng isang kanal. Karaniwan nang malinis at malamig ang tubig sa batis na madalas matatagpuan sa gitna ng mga kakahuyan sa gubat. Pumapalibot ang batis sa pakilos ng ibabaw at tubig-bukal na tumutugon sa pagpigil pang-heolohiya, pang-heomorpolohiya, pang-hidrolohiya at biotiko.[2].

Depende sa lokasyon nito o sa ilang mga katangian, maaring tukuyin ang batis sa iba't ibang pangalang lokal o pang-rehiyon. Maaring tawaging ilog ang mga mahaba at malaking batis.
