Ang barometro ay isang siyentipikong aparato na sumusukat ng presyon ng hangin. Naimbento ito ng Italyanong siyentipikong si Evangelista Torricelli noong 1643. Natuklasan ni Torricelli na napipilit ng presyon ng hangin na umakyat sa loob ng isang tubong salamin ang asoge hanggang sa maabot ang isang partikular na taas. Itong taas na ito ay ang sukat ng presyon ng hangin. Nagbabagu-bago sa araw-araw ang taas na ito dahil sa bahagyang pagbabagu-bago rin ng presyon ng hangin.[1]
