Ang isang astronomo (astronomer) ay isang siyentipiko sa larangan ng astronomiya na ginugugol ang kanilang pag-aaral sa isang partikular na katanungan o larangan sa labas ng saklaw ng Daigdig. Tintingnan nila ang mga bituin, planeta, buwan, kometa at galaksíya, pati na rin ang marami pang mga celestial na bagay — alinman sa observational astronomy, sa pagsusuri ng data o sa theoretical astronomy. Halimbawa ng mga paksa o larangan ng mga astronomo ay ang mga sumusunod: planetary science, solar astronomy, ang pinagmulan o ebolusyon ng mga bituin, o ang pagbuo ng mga galaxy. Mayroon ding mga kaugnay ngunit natatanging paksa tulad ng pisikal na kosmolohiya na nag-aaral ang sa Uniberso sa pangkalahatan.
