Ang Amol ang kabisera ng lalawigan ng Amol at ng rehiyon ng Mazandaran sa Iran na kinabibilangan nito. Noong senso ng 2006, ang populasyon ng poblasiyon ng lungsod ay 197,470, sa 55,183 mga mag-anak. Matatagpuan ang Amol sa pampang ng ilog ng Haraz. Ito ay mas mababa sa 20 kilometro (12 mi) timog ng Dagat Caspian at mas mababa sa 10 kilometro (6.2 mi) hilaga ng mga bundok ng Alborz. Nasa mga 180 kilometro (110 mi) ito mula sa Tehran, at mga 60 kilometro (37 mi) kanluran ng sentrong administratibong pang-lalawigan ng Sari.
