அருட்தந்தை அர்மண்ட் டேவிட்' (Armand David) (7 செப்டம்பர் 1826, எஸ்பெலெட்– 10 நவம்பர் 1900, பாரிஸ் ),[1] பிரெஞ்சு பெரே டேவிட் என பொதுவான பெயரால் அறியப்பட்டார், ஒரு லாசரிஸ்ட் கத்தோலிக்க திருச்சபை பாதிரியார் மற்றும் விலங்கியல் மற்றும் தாவரவியலாளர் ஆவார் .

சுயசரிதை

இயற்கைக்கான உலகளாவிய நிதியிலிருந்து அவரது பிறந்த இடத்தில் பன்மொழி தட்டு, பாஸ்க், பிரஞ்சு மற்றும் ஆங்கில மொழிகளில் உரையுடன்.

பிரான்சின் பைரனீஸ்-அட்லாண்டிக்ஸ் அலங்காரத்தில், பாஸ்க் நாட்டின் வடக்கே, பேயோனுக்கு அருகிலுள்ள எஸ்பெலெட்டில் பிறந்தார். இவர் 1848 ஆம் ஆண்டில் திருச்சபையில் நுழைந்தார். இவர் இயற்கை அறிவியலில் மிகுந்த விருப்பம் கொண்டிருந்தார். 1851ஆம் ஆண்டில்[1]இவர் பீக்கிங்கிற்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டார். இங்கு இவர் இயற்கை வரலாற்றின் அருங்காட்சியகத்திற்கான பொருள்களின் தொகுப்பைச் சேகரிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். விலங்கியலுடன் தாவரவியல், புவியியல் மற்றும் தொல்லுயிரியல் பொருட்களையும் சேகரித்தார்.

பிரான்சு அரசாங்கத்தின் வேண்டுகோளின் பேரில், இவரது சேகரிப்பின் முக்கிய மாதிரிகள் பாரீஸுக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டன. இதன் காரணமாக ஜார்டின் டெஸ் பிளான்டஸ் இவரைச் சீனாவின் வழியாக விஞ்ஞான பயணங்களை மேற்கொள்வதற்கு நியமித்தார். இதுவரை அறியப்படாத விலங்குகள் மற்றும் தாவரங்களின் பல மாதிரிகளைப் பெறுவதில் இவர் வெற்றி பெற்றார். மேலும் முறையான விலங்கியல் மற்றும் குறிப்பாக விலங்கு புவியியலின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கான அவரது விரிவான தொகுப்புகளின் மதிப்பு 1888 ஏப்ரல் மாதம் பாரீஸில் விஞ்ஞான வோவிலிருந்து உலகளாவிய அங்கீகாரத்தைப் பெற்றது. இவர் சீனாவில் 200 வகையான காட்டு விலங்குகளை ஒன்றாகக் கண்டுபிடித்தார். இவற்றில் 63 விலங்கியல் வல்லுநர்களுக்கு அதுவரை தெரியாதவை. மற்றும் 807 வகையான பறவைகளைக் கண்டறிந்தார், இவற்றில் 65 முன்னர் விவரிக்கப்படவில்லை. இவர் ஊர்வன, நீர்நில வாழ்வன மற்றும் மீன்களின் ஒரு பெரிய தொகுப்பை உருவாக்கி மேலதிக ஆய்வுக்காக நிபுணர்களிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார். பெரே டேவிட்டின் எலி பாம்பு (எலாப் டேவிடி) 1884ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஹென்றி எமில் சாவேஜால் இவரது நினைவாகப் பெயரிடப்பட்டது.[2] மேலும், ஏராளமான அந்துப்பூச்சிகளும் பூச்சிகளும் கண்டறிந்தார். இவை ஜார்டின் டெஸ் பிளாண்டஸின் அருங்காட்சியகத்திற்குக் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டன. ஃபாதர் டேவிட் தாவரவியலுக்கான விஞ்ஞான பயணங்கள் ஐம்பத்திரண்டுக்கும் குறைவில்லா புதிய உயிரினங்களை இவர் சேகரித்த ரோடோடென்ட்ரான்களில் காணப்பட்டன. இதே நேரத்தில் சீனாவின் மேற்கு மலைகளில் இன்னும் அதிக எண்ணிக்கையிலான எண்ணிக்கையை இதுவரை அறியப்படாத ஜென்டியன் இனங்கள் காணப்பட்டன்.

இதுவரை ஐரோப்பியர்கள் அறியாத டேவிட் கண்டுபிடித்த 'விலங்குகளில்' மிகவும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கவை, பாக்ஸிங் கவுண்டியில் உள்ள மாபெரும் பாண்டா மற்றும் பெரே டேவிட் மான். சீனாவின் சக்கரவர்த்தியின் தோட்டங்களில் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு சிலவற்றைத் தவிர பிந்தையது மறைந்துவிட்டது. ஆனால் டேவிட் ஒரு மாதிரியைப் பெறுவதில் வெற்றி பெற்று ஐரோப்பாவிற்கு அனுப்பினார். முதல் மரகத சாம்பல் துளைப்பான் மாதிரியையும் டேவிட் அனுப்பினார்.[3] இயற்கைவாதியான இவர் தனது வேலையின் மத்தியில் திருச்சபை உழைப்பையும் புறக்கணிக்கவில்லை. மேலும் இவர் தனது மதக் கடமைகளில் தம்மை கவனமாக அர்ப்பணித்ததற்காக, இவருடைய ஒழுங்கின் விதிகளின் ஒவ்வொரு விவரத்திற்கும் கீழ்ப்படிதலுக்காகவும் புகழ் பெற்றார்.
