Lloyd Stowell Shapley (* 2. jún 1923, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA – † 12. marec 2016, Tucson, Arizona, USA) bol americký ekonóm a matematik.^[1] Bol emeritným profesorom na University of California, Los Angeles, špecializoval sa na matematickú ekonómiu, najmä teóriu hier.^[2] V roku 2012 získal spolu s Alvinom E. Rothom Nobelovu cenu za ekonómiu.^[3]

Životopis

Syn astronóma Harlowa Shapleyho získal doktorát v roku 1954 na Princeton University. Ako ekonóm pracoval od roku 1948, s prestávkou (1950 – 1953), do roku 1981 pre RAND Corporation. Od roku 1981 pôsobil ako profesor na University of California v Los Angeles. Medzi jeho významné príspevky vede patrí Shapleyova hodnota a Shapley-Shubikov index.^[4][5][6] Bol členom American Mathematical Society.
