Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) je medzinárodná organizácia, ktorá sa zameriava na sprístupňovanie vedeckých informácií o biodiverzite prostredníctvom internetu. Údaje o rastlinách, zvieratách, hubách a mikroorganizmoch, ktoré poskytujú zúčastnené organizácie, sú po spracovaní voľne dostupné z jedného portálu.[1][2]

Organizácia GBIF vznikla v roku 2001 na základe memoranda zúčastnených krajín a vedeckých inštitúcií. V súčasnosti je hodnotená ako komplexný zdroj informácií pre globálne analýzy biodiverzity, so záznamami o stovkách miliónov pozorovaní viac ako 1,7 milióna druhov.[3][4][5]

GBIF Slovensko

Účastníckou krajinou s právom hlasovania je od roku 2001 aj Slovensko.[6] Do databáz GBIF v súčasnosti prispievajú tieto inštitúcie a organizácie:[7] Štátna ochrana prírody Slovenskej republiky,[8] Botanický ústav SAV[9] a environmentálna organizácia HBH Projekt Slovensko.[10]

Ich výskumné pozorovania a štúdie boli poskytnuté organizácii GBIF prostredníctvom týchto projektov:

  • Kompletizácia herbárových údajov o cievnatých a necievnatých rastlinách s pôvodom na Slovensku ale aj mimo jeho územia, ak sú uložené v slovenských herbároch.[11]
  • Údaje o zložení vtačích spoločenstiev v oblasti Chopok – juh (lyžiarske stredisko).[12]
  • Prieskum obojživelníkov a plazov v oblasti Chopok – juh (lyžiarske stredisko).[13]
  • Prieskum chránených druhov rastlín v oblasti Chopok – juh (lyžiarske stredisko).[14]
  • Prieskum výskytu vtákov v okolí dobývacieho priestoru lomu Sedlice II.[15]

V roku 2022 vydali slovenskí výskumníci štyri recenzované články s využitím informácií získaných z údajov GBIF a do databáz prispeli viac 108 000 pozorovaniami biologických druhov,[16] pričom od svojho členstva v organizácii prispeli už celkovo cez 440 000 pozorovaniami.[17]
