Yui Kitama (born October 6, 1994) is a Japanese Wheelchair Basketball player. She is a member of the Women's National Wheelchair Basketball team for Japan. In 2021, she competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.[1][2]

Life

Kitama was born with Spina Bifida. She has been in a wheelchair since the age of three. At middle school, she was a staff member of the school basketball team. When she was in the seventh grade, the coach took her to an Itami Super Phoenix’s wheelchair basketball match. She was encouraged to start playing.

She made her debut at the 2010 Asian Para Games, where she won a gold medal with her team. She finished ninth at the 2014 World Championships, and second at the 2014 Asian Para Games. She won the silver medal with the national team at the 2018 Asian Para Games. She competed at the 2019 Asia Oceania Championship for Women.[3][4]

She studied sociology at the Otemon Gakuin University in Ibaraki.
