Worksop Priory is a large parish church in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England. It is a historic building and one of the main landmarks in the town.[1] The church was originally built in 1103 and has been changed and restored many times.

History

Worksop Priory began as a priory (a type of monastery) in the 12th century. It was part of the Augustinian order of monks.[2]

During the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539, the priory was closed. Some of the buildings were destroyed, but the main church survived and became the parish church for Worksop.[3]

Over the centuries, the church has been repaired and restored. It has Gothic windows, medieval stonework, and modern additions in certain areas.

Architecture

The priory has a large nave, aisles, and a tower. Many parts of the building are from the 14th and 15th centuries. The stained glass windows and stone carvings are notable features.[4]

Today

Worksop Priory is still a working church. It holds regular services, weddings, and community events.[5]

It is also a tourist attraction and part of the town’s heritage. Visitors can learn about the priory’s history and architecture.
