I planned to write a story about our village a long time before. But I didn’t get a chance to write. Now I want to write story of our village. It is located in the state of tamilnadu, virudhunagar district in the region of sattur taluk. You can approach our village from sattur and kovilpatti. Our village is in between sattur and kovilpatti. The village has a temples, schools, match factory, card board factory and so on. The village was formed more than 300 yrs before. There is a tree backside of arulmigu irulappa swamy temple. If we calculate the age of this tree, we can know when this village was formed in this place. If I would like to explain about our village, the work for our people is agriculture. The land is block soil where we can plant cotton, chilly, sun flower, corn and so on. So the basic work of our people is agriculture. So by seeing this, we can imagine this place how greenish it would be. Here people are doing agriculture in two different ways as they are planting cotton and so on by nature rain water and the second one making a well by which they are planting cotton and so on. So at any time we can enjoy the greenish environment in our village. The village has been connected through buses, train service to various places. In our village, most probably all community people are living. I remember that our mother who wake up at the early morning (4 O clocks) and stated the house work such as cleaning muttram, making kollam (this is an art work can be done by every Tamil girls), feeding water and food for cows, taking care about chickens and so on. After that she would start to prepare food for not only the whole family but also for the people who were working in our agri-land. And our father’s life was started to take care about the bulks, cows and so on. At the early morning he started to go to agriculture land. At that time, the people were so energetic and worked hard. After finishing the house work our mother has taken food for our family in her head and the child on her hip and walked to agri-land for working. The children slept below the tree of the agri-land. Most probably children were born in the agri-land only. Our village has given a lot of engineers, doctors, lawyers, politicians. We sent a person from our village to Indian parliament to serve for our constituency. His name is Mr P.Ramamoorthy. Our people built the house with stone. Big houses and big walls can be seen in all areas of our village which resemble us how rich we were? So we can be very proud to be a citizen of this village. I am so glad to establish Rukumani sathiyabama sametha Sri Santhanagopalakrishnan swamy temple and arulmigu irulappa swamy temple in our village after so many decades of history of our village. Even they were rich in initial period of the history of our village; they have constructed this temple with block sand. After that the time was changed abruptly and people went towards to poverty line. During their rich period, they have started to build the temple as a good manner, for that they have brought a big stones from various place. But some of the reason, it was stopped and time passed very fast than their thought to build again. I remember that days of our life as a childhood, the puja’s were done for our gods in the old building. I want to explain the temple construction how it was established initially. The temple is placed very beginning approach of our village. We can see, the houses were built after the location of temple. How beautifully they have planned to establish this temple. Who are all entering our village, the first sight is our temple. So they have thought as the people has to enter our village with the peace mind and cheers in their heart. If people have cheers in their heart, they can face anything without fear and can achieve their goal. As I explained the temple is the first sight and how it was constructed means the temple was splited as two parts. One part of this temple was for Rukumani sathiyabama sametha Sri Santhanagopalakrishnan swamy and other part of the temple was for arulmigu irulappa swamy. The entrance of the temple is at east side. From the entrance, the left sides of the temple Rukumani sathiyabama sametha santhanagopalakrishnan swamy are living and the right side of the temple arulmigu irulappa swamy is living. The history is proved that we had Mahatma Gandhi and nethaji subas Sandra Bose in the fight of independence for India from the British Empire. One man is to deal the people in a peace manner and other one is to fight against arrogant people. Thus we have succeeded in the war of independence. But this was proved over 300 years before with the religious thought of our people. Our people believe, these two gods are saving our life. Now come to the point of construction of temple. In the left side there was a room for living Rukumani sathiyabama sametha Sri Santhanagopalakrishnan swamy and in front of that room was allocated for worshipping the god and backside of that room was for preparing prasatham ie pongal. Pongal is not separated from our people life which is used to express a happy moment. For happy moment we usually take sweet. So pongal is not easily separated from our culture. The preparation of prasatham’s place was long which covered the south and north wall of temple. Half of that place was used to prepare the food and another half was used to serve the prepared food. I remember that more than 30 family members of other village who didn’t have a single paisa for food had been served food with the help of our village people. So, that place and that moment were unforgettable for the people who were all involved that action. On the right side, if you see from the entrance, was for arulmigu irulappa swamy. This part of the temple was very interesting place for the people, children, and neighbors. That area was called as madam. Madam is a place for the people who could stay some days if they would like go a big temple as pilgrim. So always that place is occupied by many people and people used that place to share their experience and thoughts. If I would like to explain that place, the first 5 to 6 feet was occupied by arulmigu irulappa swamy. In front of that area the people used to sit and discussed their thoughts and slept during nights. What a beautiful moment that was; if we see the internal view of upper part of the roof, the car for Rukumani sathiyabama sametha sri santhanagopalakrishnan swamy was dismantled and kept inside of the inner view of roof. The car festival starts at every October month. And the extreme right of the temple, a small wall was raised. The roof of the entire temple was made by vaikols which helped the place to be cool. People loved that place thus we could see the people at any time. At the entrance, there were two stone pillars and in between the pillars a bell was hanging. The bell was used to call the people to come the temple. On side of two pillars a small stone pillars presented. The children sat on the small stone pillars and rung the bell. On the right side of the entire temple, there is kamahi (water can be stored this area) from which we can take a water for agriculture purpose and which is being used to improve the ground water level. There is a single road which connects the entrance of the village to end. At every October month the people celebrate car festival for Rukumani sathiyabama sametha Sri Santhanagopalakrishnan swamy and every may end or June first people celebrate pongal festival for both gods. Since the temple was build long years before and condition of the temple was also bad, people wanted to make a new temple. After that our father’s generation planned to build a new temple for these two gods at the same place. Even that time the people faced economic problem, they were very strong in their thought to build a new temple in the same place. So they have dismantled the old temple and started to build a new at the same place. They went so many places wherever our own village citizens are living. They stopped their own work and went many places to collect money for building this temple. They believed two lakshmi’s. Yes, they went to meet these two lakshmi’s in the capital of Tamil nadu Chennai where they have explained the situation and ideas. The lakshmi’s are subbulakshmi and vijayalakshmi of Chennai. They have born in our village and doing a business in the capital of Tamil nadu. As their name’s, they have given money for building the temple. The construction works was started. That time I finished 10th standard and waiting to go higher secondary school. With the help of them, the building was raised at a certain level. The youngster of our father generation people acted very fast. They run all over the place wherever our village citizens are living and knocked their doors. But because of their effect, they could achieve at certain level only. Even Ravikumar’s father collected donation from his working place. He was in the Indian Army. He collected from his place and sent money for this temple. By seeing this we have to be very grateful to our nation also. After that the situation was changed drastically. They couldn’t move to next level. When they were starting this work, the old generation refused the younger generation thoughts. They didn’t do anything for building this temple at initial. After that they saw the level of work finished and confidence of younger generation, they have come and join with the hands of younger generation. Mr. Subbaiah a lawyer he is also a citizen of our village who led the older generation. By this, the younger generation refreshed. The younger generation started to work again with this confidence and flied all the direction to collect the money. Now with two hands and two different experiences, the people of our village went different direction, different places to collect money as donation. We got a lot of money from the people and the temple was constructed. I can tell bravely that please kit the wall of this temple by hand, every bricks of this temple will tell you how hard our people worked to make this and how dedication we had to finish this work. It has been taken two years (2001-2003) to finish the work. I am so happy and lucky fellow as I was from initial to final work of building this temple. I have mentioned how hard we worked to make this but I didn’t tell one person name until now who was a backbone for making this temple. Yes, he is raj alias krishnamoorthy who is the citizen of our village and now he is living in sattur. He promised that he would help to build this temple. He sent a lot of material for making this temple. I remember that, the people of our village discussed about how to proceed further but suddenly one guy came with material for building and told us Mr Raj asked me to go this place to give the material. He gave for this temple a lot of money and material. We have to be very grateful for this man of our citizen. I salute you sir for your help at the moment of our people who went to closed forest and run all the direction to come out from the forest. You made a path for our people to come out from the closed forest. We would be very grateful to you sir at any time. Friends, the next year we are going to celebrate varudappichekam for this temple. Before celebrating this, we have to make a gopuram for this temple. When we are seeing now our temple, it seems to be different from the temple view. So this is the time to make a gopuram for this temple before celebrating varudappichekam. Friends of this generation, our previous generation has achieved their goal and this is our term. What we are going to do? Please take this as a challenge and start to work to success our goal. The time period is less but work to be done is more. ‘Come on’ my friends and tie all our hands together and raise our hands. How shortly we achieved to bring a sendamelam for pongal festival, with that same inspiration, I hope that we will achieve this work also. ‘Raise our unity at any time’ R.Vigneshwaran
