Day was born in Adelaide, South Australia and attended Walford Anglican School for Girls[2].
She went on to obtain a Bachelor Degree of Arts (majoring in Politics) and of Laws (with Honours) from the University of Adelaide (1999), a Graduate Diploma of Arts (Foreign Affairs and Trade) from Monash University (2000) and a Master of Arts (International Relations) from Deakin University (2002)[3].
She was the recipient of the Charles Allan Seymour Hawker Scholarship in 1995[4], supporting her studies at The University of Adelaide and residency at St Mark’s College.
Day joined the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in 1999 as a graduate trainee. Her first international placement was in 2000, when she worked as a civilian monitor in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea[5].
Her first official diplomatic posting was as Third Secretary at the Australian Permanent Mission to the UN in Vienna (2002-05). This was followed by postings as First Secretary in Dili, East Timor (2007-2009) and as the Political Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Paris (2014-16)[6].
In Australia, she served as the Director of the South Australian Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)[7].
Day currently serves as the Australian Ambassador to Switzerland, based in Bern, and holds non-residential accreditation as the Ambassador to Lichtenstein. She was appointed by Senator the Hon Penny Wong in November 2022[8] and was proceeded in the role by Philip Green[9].
