Castilleja is a secular, 6-12 grade independent school located in California, USA. Each year, in honor of Women's History Month, Castilleja students contribute to Simple English Wikipedia. Some years we edit articles on notable female authors who write the books our students love to read. Other years we work on topics students are learning about in class. Working with our instructional librarians and classroom faculty to carry out careful, factual research, the students create or enhance entries. This lesson gives students the opportunity to develop a stake in a resource they use regularly, explore what it means to participate in an online intellectual community, and contribute female voices to a predominantly male crowdsourcing endeavor.
