Ansuman Roy _________________________ Ansuman Roy (অংশুমান রায়) , a succesful Bengali Folk singer during the late 1960s and late 1988 and onwards. He was born to Lt. Rampada Roy and Lt. Bivabati Roy, he hailed from the current district of Jhargram, West Bengal, India. Ansuman Roy Born -- August 19, 1936 Origin-- Jhargram, West Bengal Died -- April 22 , 1990 Genrs -- Indian Classical,Modern & Folk Music Occupations-- Playback Singer , Harmonium Player Instruments-- Harmonium Years active-- 1956-1990 Labels -- Hindusthan Record ,Inreco, HMV, Raga, symphony, T-Series Early Life and Career He passed his School Finals from Jhargram and carried on research work on Bengali Folk Literature and Folk tunes of South West Border of West Bengal for 10 years. He also showed interest and a special aptitude for Indian Classical Music and Light Music since boyhood. His songs were broadcast from All India Radio (AIR), Calcutta since 1959. He delivered lecture demonstrations on Folk Music before the research scholars in the Department of Anthropology and attended seminars at a few universities in Kolkata, namely, Calcutta University, Rabindra Bharati University (1967) and Jadavpur University. In 1975, he was awarded the Bangabandhu Gold Medal, by the Government of Bangladesh for his song "Shono Ekti Mujibar er theke", written by Lt. Shri. Gouri Prasanna Majumdar and sung by Roy. This record was published by Hindusthan Records Company in 1971. In July 1978 he went to Havana, Cuba to attend the 11th World festival of Youth and Students as an Indian delegate. He was also awarded the "Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song "Ghochang Foo" from the film Char Murti(1978). During his musical life time , he worked with Sudhin Dasgupta,Aloke Nath De, Pulak Bondhopadhaya, Gouri Prasanna Mazumdar,Sibdas Bondhopadhaya,Mnna De,Sandhya Mukherjee,Banasree Sengupta,Haimanti Shukla, Hemanta Mukherjee, Shaymal Mitra, Ajoye Das,Manobendra Mukherjee ............ and with others at his time.

Personal Life He was married to Smt Kamala Roy (Banerjee) . They have two sons, Bhaskar Roy(who is a singer in his own rights at present in Kolkata) and Antar Roy (guitarist in Kolkata), and one daughter,Meita Guha Roy(presently settled in Mumbai).
