The Umbrellabird is a genus of birds found in South and Central America. They are name after their hoods which looks like an umbrella. There are three species of them, The Amazonian umbrellabird, found in the Amazon Rainforest, the Long-wattled umbrellabird found in western Ecuador and western Colombia, and the Bare-necked umbrellabird, found in Costa Rica and Panama, two of which are threatened. The Umbrellabird was first discovered in the 1800s by Sir Alfred Wallace, while he was on an expedition to South America. With an average length of 35-50 centimetres (14-19.5 inches), the male Amazonian umbrellabird is said to be the largest member in the Contiga family, and the largest passerine in South America. Umbrellabirds are usually solitary, and have a lifespan of 16 years in the wild.
