Tungstate

Tungstate is a name for several related minerals and chemical compounds. Tungstates can be mixed oxides of tungsten or contain tungsten oxyanions. A common type of tungstate is orthotungstate, WO2−4. Most tungsten ores are tungstates.

Examples

The mineral scheelite and the solid solution wolframite are two important tungstates. They are orthotungstates of calcium, manganese, and iron. Most tungsten metal is made from one of these ores.
