A tier list is a way to put things into groups based on how good or bad they are.[2] People use tier lists to rank (order from best to worst) different items in a specific topic.

Tier lists started in video games. Players used them to show which characters or tools were the strongest. Today, people use tier lists for many other things, like movies, food, and music.[3]

How it works

A tier list is usually a chart with different rows. Each row has a letter that shows its rank. The highest rank is at the top, and the lowest rank is at the bottom.[4]

Most tier lists use these ranks:

  • S-Tier: This is the highest rank. "S" stands for "Super" or "Special". The things in this row are the best.
  • A-Tier: This is for things that are very good, but not perfect.
  • B-Tier: This is for things that are good or average.
  • C-Tier: This is for things that are below average.
  • D-Tier: This is for things that are bad.
  • F-Tier: This is the lowest rank. "F" stands for "Fail". The things in this row are the worst.
