Template:Patent/doc

This is a documentation subpage for Template:Patent. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This template is designed for simple citation of patents. Parameters are passed numerically:

1. The prefix of the organization publishing the patent, examples are
   • US: U.S. Patent Office
   • EP: European Patent Organisation (under the European Patent Convention)
   • WO: World Intellectual Property Organisation (under the United Nations)
   • DE: Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt
2. The patent or patent application number (no punctuation is allowed at this time)
3. string "application" (optional third parameter)
4. Patent publication data such as author name and title (this does not affect the generated URL)

The output is the patent number, and a link pointing to a permalink for the patent chosen. This output should be enclosed within reference tags (<ref> and </ref>) in the same way as Template:Cite web.

Note that patent application numbers are generally different from patent numbers. If you need this, please use the Template:Cite patent template with the optional application parameter.

• {{Patent}}, a generic template for general use referring to world's patent offices
• {{Ref patent}}, similar to {{US patent reference}}, but using espacenet with more details than {{Cite patent}}
• {{US patent}}, to include a link to a US patent
• {{US patent application}}, to cite a US patent application as a reference in "references" section
• {{US patent reference}}, to cite a US patent as a reference in "references" section
• {{USPTO Application}}
• {{USPTO Patent}}
