Usage

Use {{format footnotes|date=August 2026}} to alert editors to articles with citations that are incorrectly formatted or not formatted at all.

This template will add the page to Category:Articles needing references cleanup.

Examples

Use in an article with citations like:

or

A standard, correct way of formatting this citation would be:
