Puppet states are "kept in power by a military force." The arms provided to the this state meet this definition. Further, US officials have stated that Ukraine is a puppet state. I don't see what the argument that they're not a puppet state is. 205.178.48.62 (talk) 02:04, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ukraine isn't controlled by the US, and its funding is not mostly coming from the US. Ukraine would exist as an independent state except that Russia is trying to conquer it. This differs from other states that aren't able to make independent decisions and would collapse internally if another country wasn't supporting their government. First, that's just incorrect. The US is sending the most aid to Ukraine. source

Second, This is not about whether or not Ukraine is being threatened by another country. There need be no external threat to meet the description atop this page.

Further, an uncontested state like Northern Cyprus is not controlled by another state. The en.wiki page states that it is governed by a representative democratic republic. If they are able to make decisions democratically, why are they on this list?

To be clear, sending military aids isn't a form of puppetary, Ukraine is free to do its own things and not controlled in its affairs by the US. And there's no evidence of the US keeping control militarily over the ground in Ukraine. GlottAff (talk) 10:44, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

*There is a valid argument that Ukraine has always been a puppet state. It went from being a puppet state of Russia from 1991 to 2014 to being a puppet state of USA from 2014 to present. • I think it is ridiculous to say "the Ukraine is a puppet state of the U.S". The US has contributed far less hardware than Europe but more money. And if Trump becomes President, Ukraine is in for an even harder time. Virtually all the tanks have come from Europe, and the anti-drone drones have come from the UK. America has contributed a lot of money to support the Ukraine, that I will say. What we should see is the connection between this war and the earlier grab for Sebastopol. Hello, I propose we remove the listing of "puppet states". Countries can then be re-added, but with references. Calling an existing country a puppet state is something that needs a reliable reference. That the "Turkish Republic of Norther Cyprus" has strong ties to Turkey (the only country who recognises it, to my knowlege), is pretty clear. Whether it is a puppet state of Turkey, and how much influence Turkey has is less clear. So the claim that it is a puppet state of Turkery needs a reference.
