Tagetes is a genus of flowers commonly called marigold. Tagetes has 56 species [2] of plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae or Compositae). The genus is native to North and South America.

Description

Tagetes species vary in size from 0.1 to 2.2 m tall. Most species have pinnate green leaves. Blooms naturally occur in golden, orange, yellow, and white colors. In horticulture, they are usually planted as annuals.
