Sun Chaser is an Philippine animated web series created by Benard Badion and Bobby Pontillas.[1] The pilot episode was released on June 22, 2026, with further episodes planned to be made via fundraising.

Premise

Taking its inspiration from the Philippine mythology, the series resolves on an teenager named Jordan Santos, whose summer vacation takes a wild turn when an supernatural curse strikes upon his family and transforms his island home into a battleground of mythical creatures. With the help of quirky beings like a dwende named Archie and a manananggal named Angie, Jordan embarks on an epic quest rooted in vibrant Filipino mythology as he discovers his newfound role as the Spirit Guardian, a member of an ancient, inherited lineage tasked with protecting the fragile barrier between the human and spirit realms.[2]

Conception

Bobby Pontillas and Bernard Badion created the series, together with Toon City and Playlab Animation Studios. Pontillas revealed his inspiration for a passion project, stating that it "came from a personal place of wanting to tell a story rooted in Filipino mythology and identity, through the eyes of a young Filipino American trying to reconnect with his rots."[7]

Production

Sun Chaser was reportedly made to have an "hand-crafted" feel with the animatic made through Storyboard Pro and the animation made through Toon Boom Harmony.[8]

Release

Sun Chaser's pilot was premiered on YouTube on June 22, 2026.[6][9] A Kickstarter for the series was launched on June 23, 2026 to potentially fund in the production of further episodes.[10] Upon the time of the Kickstarter's cancelation on July 11, 2026, it made $18,184 out of its $100,000 goal.[11] Creators Pontillas and Badion made an quote that their partner which funded in the project has committed to support the second episode's release.[11]
