Strontium bromide is an ionic compound made of strontium and bromide ions. The chemical formula is SrBr2. The molar mass is 247.428 g/mol (anhydrous). It is used in flares to make a bright red colour in fireworks. It usually forms the hexahydrate salt when exposed to moisture or water. It is made when strontium (metal or basic compound) reacts with bromine or hydrobromic acid.
It can be made when strontium metal reacts with liquid bromine to make strontium bromide.
It can also be made when strontium hydroxide reacts with hydrobromic acid to make strontium bromide and water.
